2020 was an exceptionally difficult year for Australians with drought, bushfires and a global pandemic. Many our communities experienced job losses, homelessness, increased mental health concerns and a sense of isolation. The Ingleburn Community and surrounding suburbs were greatly impacted and many faced a meager festive season.

Researching our community, Ingleburn Rotary identified needy children in local schools, families accessing mental health services and charities that needed help.

Every Ingleburn Rotarian contributed quality Christmas gifts. These were supplemented by the wider community through Facebook and business donations. The result was 357 gifts for all ages of children that were delivered to four schools and five charity organizations.

100% of the Ingleburn Rotary Club were involved in the collection of $7140 worth of gifts. Eight members volunteered to sought, wrap and deliver these gifts of hope.

One business, a martial arts group, were looking for a way to give back to the community. The children within that organization successfully learnt the value of giving and service to others.

A principal from one of the schools attended a Rotary meeting to express gratitude. She told the story of a family that had fallen on difficult times that would not have had presents for their children without Rotary.

One charity in particular saw the need for Grandparents who were without financial means to give their grandchildren a gift. The donations from Ingleburn Rotary fulfilled this need.

A heartbreaking story of a family of nine children losing their father in a drowning accident a few weeks before Christmas came through a local mental health organization. Personally delivering gifts for the family demonstrated that they were not alone. Everyone of Ingleburn Rotary was able to reach through this giving project expressed their humbled gratitude, the impact captured on social media.

Ingleburn Rotary helped to change lives through giving more than gifts. They gave hope.
